What Surprises Me in Taiwan (By Roman Korimara, National Sun Yat-sen University)

Let me introduce myself.  My name is Roman Korimara. I am from Rep of Kiribati. My stay in Taiwan is almost one year now. I am here to work for masters degree in Electric Power Engineering. My University is in the south of Taiwan which is National Sun Yatsen University. During my stay in this university what perhaps surprises me the most is mainly Taiwanese people and the way they live their daily lives.

Firstly, someday I walked around the city and I could see many people. These people are full of activities. A few days later, I walked around the same places; I saw the same thing again. To me it seems, everyday they are full of activities. What I realised the Taiwanese people are sorely using their time wisely and moreover in turn it will surely contributes to betterment of this country as I can witness today. Unfortunately this is very good experience because it teaches me personally.

Secondly, recently I saw most of the students in this university as they are always respecting their teacher. I do really appreciate them personally because in my country we are doing the same thing as well. What surprise me the Taiwanese people are not respecting only their teacher, but they are showing consideration for everybody no matter where are you from , believe me and I always says this.

My Friendship in Taiwan by Lim Lean Sze (National Cheng Kung University)

Friendship’s the wine of life but friendship new is neither strong nor pure. I like to meet people as I like the taste of wine. This is because friendships color my life into more meaningful.

Hot Topic : The Most Beautiful Spot on Campus by Walton Bohanny

“Beautiful” is the name I gave to NTCN campus, my home sweet home in Taipei. Perhaps, you’re wondering why did I gave my school such a name, rite? Well, to be a honest writer, I gave such classification due to the fact that everywhere on NTCN campus is beautiful.

Once you first see the sight of NTCN, you will soon realize that it’s a beautiful place. It’s a colorful campus with a plain white background that is composed of white-painted building, or lightly-painted buildings that give a good contrast to show the many varieties of colors that reflecting from natural environment that is surrounded by trees, plants, and flowers. In the middle of the campus, it sits a lively pond with many colorful and friendly creatures such a fish, turtle, frogs, and even bugs.

Although, the campus is full of beauty, I come to a consensus that our school library is the most beautiful in term of deeply colorful and the place filled with colorful resources. It’s is beautiful because it is the place where beautiful can be created. What is seen or can be seen on campus is a product of knowledge, which I defined as “beautiful”, without the knowledge or education; there won’t be any sense of beautiful. Beautiful is a product of creativity, and being creative is also a learned knowledge or practice, that once somebody acquired, he or she can create beautiful in terms of designing a lively and colorful campus.

So, again I say my school library is the most beautiful place on my campus because it fills with “beautiful”. And beautiful for me is knowledge, without knowledge these days, you find someone or something ugly and useless.

Xie Xie and God bless all.

My Travel Experience in Taiwan By Walton from Marshall Islands

I had a number of traveling experiences in Taiwan that are worth writing about. I had two major ones, if you would! The first major one was a trip to the southern part of Taiwan. I traveled with my fellow classmates and my program manager to Pingtung. It was a refreshing experience! We left the chill Taipei and visited a place that has very warm and welcoming weather. It was like home, the beautiful sun was there and big open spaces were just lovely to view and admire. Well this trip was basically for a sport event, which was organized and planned by the ICDF and National Pingtung University of Science and Technology. It was a perfect and fun event, no questions about, and up of all, our team won the third place!

This first trip was well anticipated and yet went beyond my expectation. I mean I thought I would really enjoy and engage in the game, instead my arthritis did not allow me to join all the commotions. However, I am glad that I was at least there to cheer my team players and most importantly, I was able to assist the injured players; I sprayed their contracture muscles with muscle relaxants and I also managed to assist one with a minor sprained ankle by applying elastic roller around his injured ankle.

My study/research experience at Taiwan by Walton

Allow me to first, introduce myself, since last time I had my article appeared in your newsletter ( ICDF News), I realized that I didn’t expressed myself well enough to an extend that my readers will at least become aware of my personal and cultural background, if that’s necessary! Anyway, my name is Walton Bohanny, married and a lovely father, as often expressed by my beautiful wife, from the Marshall Islands, located and floated in the Northern Pacific Ocean, somewhat between Hawaii, to the north and Australia, to the south.

Recently, I have been contacting lots of research; looking through a wide variety of data resources, literature reviews, internet sources to name a few. I found myself to be more comfortable in using the computer, internet, and other forms of information technologies.

I have been admiring all the works and learning experiences I have gained so far through my study in Taiwan. I personally thank my school, NTCN, for giving me all the opportunities to use the latest teaching or learning tools; like using laptop and projector in doing presentation, or using the computer on campus to explore the wide range of data resources and literature reviews.
